Project Name: ‘‘Health System Strengthening at Government Health Facilities at Cox’s Bazar’’Reportable to: Superintendent of District Hospital, Cos’s Bazar and UH&FPOs –, Ukhiya and Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar Monitoring & Technical Assistants: PHD in collaboration with IOM will deploy a group of staff led by Team Leader for round-the-clock monitoring and technical support. This may include spot check, review of performance reports and assessing technical competency.Accountable to: As an appointing authority, you will be accountable to PHD for legal and disciplinary procedures for which PHD will review your performances periodically. Team Leader of this project and senior officials will represent PHD.Job Objective:The Medical Technologist (LAB/Blood Bank) will be recruited as a part of human resource support under the joint collaboration between PHD and IOM to enhance access, quality and utilization of essential health, nutrition and GBV services in District Hospital, Ukhiya and Teknaf UHCs, Cox’s Bazar. The Medical Technologist will be responsible to conduct on‑site diagnostic testing, ensure the safe collection, testing, processing, and inventory management of blood and blood components—maintaining stringent quality control, supporting timely transfusion services, ensure laboratory quality control, support community health screening, disease surveillance, and facilitate timely clinical decision‑making at the facility level.Responsibilities:The Medical Technologist will undertake the following tasks in the respective department assigned by the hospital authority, not limited to:
Conduct all available pathological test for the patients, carrying out day to day regular & emergency lab procedures and communicate with Consultants/GPs for apprising any abnormal lab findings, as required.
Perform blood grouping (ABO, Rh-typing), cross-matching, and antibody screening/identification for safe transfusions, prepare blood components—packed red blood cells, plasma, platelets, cryoprecipitate—following standard protocols
Collects blood samples for testing and conducts infectious disease screening assays, including HIV, hepatitis, syphilis, and other transfusion-transmissible infections.
Ensure quality control (QC) of reagents and equipment; calibrate centrifuges and analyzers, monitoring storage conditions and inventory, ensuring availability and proper rotation of blood units align with national blood transfusion policies (SOP) and safety regulations.
Documentation of all lab activities including test findings, investigation and reports of transfusion reactions in proper register/system.
Ensure stock and replenishment of all related reagents & accessories and logistics for running the Laboratory. Review stock & initiate timely requisition for laboratory activities and identify the early expiry item for avoid wastage and take necessary measure.
Ensure care & maintenance of all the lab instruments & equipment including regular required calibration.
Keep service records and prepare daily, monthly and yearly reports
Protect patients, technicians and lab by adhering to infection-control protocols.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
He/she will comply the waste disposal protocols especially for sharps and biological products.
Hospital(DH/UHCs) operates 24 hours a day, thus medical technologist may need to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends or duties in shift.
Maintain liaison with respective authority for administrative and technical purpose respectively.
