:
The Bangladesh Centre for Worker Solidarity (BCWS) is a prominent labor rights advocacy organization based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The aim of the organization is to empower and support garment workers who are seeking decent working conditions and to advocate domestically and internationally for greater respect for labor rights and fighting for workers rights and job with dignity. BCWS especially emphasizes the rights of women workers, gender equality, participation of women workers in bargaining and protecting the human rights of women and children. BCWS was founded in 2000.Job Summary:The Advocacy Officer will support and lead advocacy efforts to influence policy and promote labor rights, just transition, and climate resilience within the RMG (Ready-Made Garment) sector in Bangladesh. The role includes policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, campaign coordination, and capacity-building and communication support with workers and trade unions. promote rights-based approaches, and amplify the voices of marginalized communities.Responsibilities:Develop and implement advocacy strategies aligned with project and organizational goals
Monitor and analyze policy developments at national and local levels
Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, civil society, media, and networks
Coordinate advocacy campaigns, events, and public engagement activities
Draft policy briefs, position papers, and advocacy materials
Support capacity building of staff and partners on advocacy and influencing skills
Document success stories, case studies, and advocacy outcomes
Represent the organization in relevant forums and coalitions
Develop and implement advocacy strategies on labor rights, decent work, and climate justice
Monitor national and international labor and climate policies affecting the RMG sector
Engage with government agencies, trade unions, suppliers, and brands to influence change
Support coalition-building and represent the organization in relevant forums and alliances
Coordinate campaigns, public events, and dialogue sessions with workers and community groups
Reporting:
Prepare Timely Reports: Produce high-quality reports for management, donors, and other stakeholders. Ensure timely submission of reports as per donor requirements.
Summarize Advocacy Insights: Collaborate with the project team to prepare concise and informative summaries of Advocacy efforts, including key achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and success stories.
Support Proposal Development: Contribute to the development of new project proposals by providing relevant data, indicators, and lessons learned from learning.
Continuous Improvement & Learning:
Capacity Building: Continue building the capacity of project teams. Organize workshops, training sessions, and provide ongoing technical support.
Identify Areas for Improvement: Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the current policy system and suggest improvements for more efficient data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Learning and Adaptation: Foster a learning culture within the team by sharing advocacy findings and encouraging data-driven decision-making for improved project implementation.
Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement:
Internal Collaboration: Work closely with the project management and field teams to integrate the feedback into day-to-day operations and decision-making processes.
Compliance: Ensure all advocacy activities and reports comply with donor guidelines, organizational policies, and international best practices.
