Educational Requirement : Master of Science (MSc) in Nursing Master’s in nursing or related subject with training in nursing practice and educational/teaching experience
Other Requirement :
  • At least 10 years of experience of different nursing & program and services in Bangladesh;
  • Experience in nursing education/services in public sector including structure and function of nurses at all levels of public sector nursing;
  • Understanding of the nursing professional association in country and in global context and process to strengthening the association
  • Experience working with Director General Nursing and Midwifery (DGNM), Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC) and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare;
  • Essential Skills:
  • High quality technical knowledge and demonstrated experience on nursing sector development;
  • Fluency and writing skills in English and Bengali; and
  • Mastery of computer tools: Internet, Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), etc.

Cowater works with governments, partner organizations, communities and civil society to design and implement sustainable solutions that generate lasting social, financial and environmental impacts.BACKGROUNDCowater International Inc. is implementing a eight-year (2021-29) Project titled "Empowering Women through Professionalization of the Nursing Sector in Bangladesh (ProNurse)”, funded by Global Affairs Canada. The Project will deliver on Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) priorities of gender equality, empowerment of women, and human dignity for the nursing profession in Bangladesh. Working under the overall guidance of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), ProNurse is jointly working with Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery (DGNM) and Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC). The Project aims to enhance the voice and influence of women in the health sector in Bangladesh, through the empowerment and professionalization of female nurses, both in public and private sector. The Project’s expected results include: i) improved quality of gender-responsive education for female nurses in both public and private sectors in Bangladesh; ii) improved performance and professional status of female nurses in Bangladesh; and iii) improved enabling environment for female nurses for their increased participation in the health sector in Bangladesh. Overall Responsibilities
  • The National Nursing Specialist, reporting to the Team Leader (TL), located in Dhaka, will be responsible for implementation and achievement of the selected Outputs. S/he will work with ProNurse Project Team in implementing the activities related to the implementation of Certificate Training Course of Nurse Teachers Training Centre (NTTC), specialised trainings and support developing enabling environment through credible nurses’ professional association to advocate the professional growth and empowerment nurses in Bangladesh with a focus to female nurses.
  • Specific responsibilities include:A. Rolling out Certificate Training Program (CTP) for Nurse Teachers‘Training Centre (NTTC):
  • Work closely with NTTC faculty, Senior Nursing Specialist and University of Montreal (UdeM) to roll out one year teachers training course of NTTC.
  • Provide logistics and administrative support to NTTC faculty to implement the course.
  • Support Nurse Educator Program Advisor (NEPA) and NTTC faculty to develop innovative teaching materials
  • Ensure all teaching learning materials including evaluation materials and NTTC policies are ready and available when needed
  • Work closely with faculty to understand their pedagogical needs and answer questions
  • Support DGNM to place NTTC Director, Deputy Director and other positions
  • Act as a mentor for the national trainers for NTTC and continue to mentor them for smooth transitioning to government.
  • Work closely with BNMC in approving the certificate training course.
  • Work closely with DGNM to implement 28 days teachers’ training program; ensure that all training program/delivery follows competency-based approach.
  • B. Supporting activities related to capacity building of nurses professional association:
  • Under the guidance of TL, establish a working relationship with the newly elected Executive Committee of Bangladesh Nurses Association (BNA) and determine the support needed to develop a professional nursing association.
  • Review all key documents Including constitution of Bangladesh Nurses Association (BNA) especially the constitution and support the process of review, revise and approval of the document by the EC
  • Inder the guidance of TL support development and implementation of various policy documents for BNA including their vision, mission and strategic plan
  • Under the guidance of DTL, work closely with BNA to develop a national campaign to raise nurses voice and realize the right of nurses;
  • Project Strategy:
  • Under the guidance of DTL and MEDS, gather PMF Indicator data/information as necessary for monthly, quarterly, mid-year and annual reports;
  • Lead the write up of the quarterly activities and sub activities progress report as per project guidelines in close collaboration with M&E Specialist and under guidance of DTL;
  • Contribute to the development of Annual Work Plans and write up the selected Outputs;
  • Provide input to update the Risk Register, Performance Measurement Framework (PMF) and Outcome sustainability Plan with support from DTL
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  • Communication and partnership
  • In consultation with the TL liaise with various Bangladeshi /international actors working in nursing sector as well as other donors and donor funded programs to create synergies, collaborate and share lessons.
